JONATHAN DOBIN

Baritone

Jonathan has enjoyed singing in choral ensembles in section and as a soloist since 1971 including among others: the Pro Arte Chorale (NJ), Choir of St. Ignatius Loyola, Park Avenue Synagogue, the Stonewall Chorale, Polyhymnia (NYC), Calvary Presbyterian Church (Newburgh) and Newburgh Symphonic Choir, under the direction of current and former Kairos members Ingrid Narken and Peter Sipple. He currently acts as a soloist and section leader for the St. George's Episcopal Church in Newburgh under Christopher King. Between 1983 and 2013 Jonathan directed an early music ensemble, MUSE, featuring singers, instruments and period dancing, garnering a number of grants and awards. He is also a composer of choral works and has arranged editions of 18th century theatrical and dance music. In particular, his edition of “The Beggar’s Opera” has been performed across the country to critical acclaim.  Earlier in life he enjoyed a career as an illustrator for recordings, news and magazines.

Jonathan has admired the work of Edward Lundergan and Kairos since his arrival to the Hudson Valley in 2006.  He is honored and joyful to now be a member of the ensemble.
